Don’t Forget to Schedule Your Eye Exam
You may think that you can see just fine, so you’re avoiding an eye exam in Columbus, Ohio, or nearby cities. The truth is you should have an exam anytime from once a year to once every three years. At Grove City Vision Center, we offer comprehensive eye exams for patients of all ages. Our doctors have the training and qualification to determine prescriptions for contacts or glasses, as well as diagnose common eye diseases and recommend a treatment course.
What Does a Comprehensive Exam Entail?
When you come to our office for your comprehensive exam, you can expect to undergo some simple tests. You’ll start by reading an eye chart, and the tests will progress to having the doctor examine the tissue of your eyes through a high-powered lens. After these tests, the doctor will be able to determine whether a correction is needed and whether the eyes are in good health overall.
Signs you need an appointment
When it comes to your vision, you can’t be too careful. The following are some signs to watch out for. If you notice one or more of these issues, it’s time to give us a call to schedule an appointment.
- Difficulty seeing at night
- Eye strain and headaches that accompany screen time
- Changes in vision following head trauma
- Itchy, dry or red eyes
- Seeing floaters or spots
Of course, it it’s been longer than a year since your last eye exam, that’s another sign it’s time to get your appointment scheduled. If you have diabetes or a family history it, we should see you so our optometrists can get an idea of where you’re at in regards to your vision.
Who Should Have an Exam?
Both children and adults need a regular eye exam in Columbus, Ohio, or surrounding areas. Some common risk factors to keep in mind that may indicate a problem in a child’s vision include family history of eye diseases, developmental delays, premature birth, a history of eye injury and crossed eyes. If a child does not have these risk factors and passes their eye exam at the beginning of school, they should only need an exam every two years.
Some risk factors that point to more frequent visits for adults include high blood pressure, diabetes and other disorders that affect vision. Those older than 60 years of age will need an exam every year, while those younger are typically fine visiting our office every two years.
